Carnival queen in pineapple costumeCarnival came to Brighton and to Madeira Drive since 2007. The Brighton Carnival started in West Street, paraded through the Old Town, and finished in Madeira Drive, where samba bands entertained enthusiastice spectators.

Brighton Carnival had big ambitions. Let me quote: "The vision is to have a weekend of carnival on the seafront in Brighton, that in the future rivals Notting Hill, Trinidad, Rio and other famous carnivals around the world." No false modesty there!

Unfortunately the Bankster Crisis hit finances, hit Carnival. In 2010 because of funding problems the carnival was confined to Madeira Drive. In 2011 it was cancelled, but in 2012 the Carnival was back on track. In 2013 there were again major problems.

Hopefully, one day the Brighton Carnival will return in all its glory.
