Lewes is an historic town in and also the county town of East Sussex. It's history is preserved in its medieval castle, its flint-walled houses and cobbled streets, and in its annual parade festival on November 5, when the town's six bonfire societies take to the streets in costume, carrying banners, effigies, and burning torches.
